The mythical creature had been used as a symbol of royalty in Thailand for centuries. The Garuda was officially adopted as the national emblem of Thailand in 1911. Garuda also symbolizes the Thai Monarcy, it appears in all forms of art, architecture and even modern sculpture. This statue was found in Bangkok and was the only one we found on our last trip there!
